Embracing Imperfection
Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection- Mark Twain
Today, let's explore the notion of imperfection and how it shapes our lives as both humans and artists.
As we journey through life, we often struggle with the idea of perfection. Trying to be flawless in every aspect of our lives, from our work to our relationships, can be exhausting and, more often than not, counterproductive. I've personally found myself trapped in this cycle, constantly seeking perfection in my ideas before taking action, fearing judgment and rejection at every turn.
But over time here's what I've realised—
Perfection is not the goal. PROGRESS is.
In our pursuit to be perfect, we actually end up doing very little. When I look back to how I started, had I been obsessed with being perfect, there's no way I would have tried and learnt all that I did over the last three years. In my opinion, I experienced growth every time I let go perfection and moved ahead with a less than perfect idea. It was a struggle initially and I had to constantly remind myself - journey before destination and progress over perfection. And yes, a simple daily reminder can be incredibly effective in shifting your mindset from overthinking to taking action.
Embracing imperfection means freeing ourselves of unrealistic standardsand expectations. It's about acknowledging that failure and rejection are inevitable part of the journey and not signs of inadequacy. How many times have you hesitated to post on Instagram because the caption didn't feel perfect? Yet, when you finally went ahead with it, did the world come crashing down? Instead, you likely felt a small sense of achievement for hitting that post button. With time, this process becomes easier and more natural.
When we embrace imperfection, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities, where we are open to trying new things, and taking risks which push us out of our comfort zones, leading to breakthrough ideas and solutions.
More importantly, embracing imperfection encourages self-acceptance. Instead of constantly striving for an unattainable ideal, we learn to appreciate ourselves and others for who we truly are—with all the beautiful flaws, which are nothing but a million possibilities for growth.
Its important to remember, our imperfections are not weaknesses; they are a part of our unique identity, part of our journey to a better self.
So, here's a gentle reminder for each of you: It's okay to not be perfect. Your flaws are what make you beautifully human, and they're an integral part of your journey towards growth and self-discovery.
Always remember,
journey before destination and progress over perfection!
